Darrell Scott is Rachel’s father, the first victim of the Columbine High School Massacre, which claimed the lives of 12 students and a teacher, in one of the deadliest school shootings in U.S. history. Since then, Rachel has been the subject of several books and is the inspiration of Rachel’s Challenge, a nationwide program for youth violence prevention, in which family members are listed as interlocutors.
Darrell Scott is co-author of three books on his daughter’s life and impact, urging students to practice compassion and kindness. Newsweek reported that he and the organization “have approached thousands of schools to deliver a “chain reaction” of hope through school assemblies, workshops, and outreach programs.”
