James R. Doty, M.D. is an academic, entrepreneur and philanthropist. He is a professor of neurosurgery and the founder and director of the Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education (CCARE) at Stanford University of which the Dalai Lama is the founding benefactor. As a neuroscientist, he is one of the leading researchers on the science of compassion and is the senior editor of the Oxford Handbook of Compassion Science. CCARE has developed programs to teach meditation combined with compassion that are taught throughout the world to promote connection and to decrease stress and anxiety. His research is cited in publications around the world
